Koei Tecmo has announced that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is already the best-selling entry in its long-running Warriors series.
TheNintendo Switchtitle, which released in November, had shipped some 3.5 million units by the end of December, making it the best-selling single title in the Warriors (‘Musou’ in Japan) series.
Koei Tecmo‘s previous best-selling Warriors entry, 2003’s Dynasty Warriors 4, sold some 2.2 million units to date.
The original Hyrule Warriors game, which released for the far less popularWii Uconsole,shipped around one million copiesin its first 4 months, according to Koei Tecmo. There are no specific sales figures for the 2018 Switch port.
Overall, Koei Tecmo enjoyed a record financial quarter for the three months ending June 17, 2025. Operating income for the quarter reached a record high of 10,919m yen ($105m), driven by sales of Hyrule Warriors, and Romance of the Three Kingdoms 14 which sold around 100,000 units in December.
Meanwhile,Team Ninja’sNioh 2has now shipped some 1.4 million units worldwide, the company said.
Nioh Collection, which brings next-gen remasters of Nioh: Complete Editon and Nioh 2: Complete edition toPS5, as well as a port of the latter toPC, is due to release in February.
Speaking to VGC in a new interviewpublished this month, series directorFumihiko Yasudareiterated his desire to one day return to the Ninja Gaiden series, but claimed that no such plans are currently in place.
The Tecmo action adventure series hasn’t seen a mainline instalment since 2012’s Ninja Gaiden 3. Yasuda, who is the director of Nioh and its sequel, was a level designer for Ninja Gaiden 2 and directed the series’ third instalment – its first since the departure of lead creator Tomonobu Itagaki.
He said: “[There are] no plans currently, but I’ve always wanted to make a new instalment in the series, so here’s hoping for that!”
Although Team Ninja denies that a new instalment is in the works, it was recently suggested that a selection of Ninja Gaiden remasters could be planned for 2021.
Ninja Gaiden Trilogywas briefly listed for release on the website of Game Source Entertainment, a Hong Kong-based distributor.
