How to unlock Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy
In order to unlock the first Merlin Trial, you’ll need to complete the Trials of Merlin quest.
You can start the quest by speaking to a witch named Nora Treadwell, who appears after you meet Natty in the story near Lower Hogsfield.
Nora will explain the basic concept to you, after which it’s up to the player to find and solve the different kinds of Merlin Trial challenges in the game world.
As you progress through the Merlin Trials quest, you’ll start to recognize what the puzzle wants from you as soon as you find the Merlin Trial.
While there are dozens and dozens of different Merlin Trials, there are generally only a few solutions to the puzzles. These include destroying pillars, a platforming challenge, rolling a large boulder down a hill and moving small objects into large dishes.

For completing every Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Legacy you’ll be given the largest possible inventory.
North Ford Bog Merlin Trials
North Ford Bog
Near the North Ford Bog Floo, this Merlin Trial requires you to use Confringo on each of the 5 blocks, a few of which are behind vines.
Pitt-Upon-Ford
Near Pitt-Upon-Ford, this Merlin Trial requires you to jump on each of the stone blocks without touching the ground, in order to cover them in Vines.
San Bakar Tower
In a graveyard near San Bakar’s tower, you’ll need to use Flippendo to make the icons on the top blocks match with the bottom ones.
East North Ford Bog
In this Merlin Trial, use Wingardium Leviosa to move the huge ball into the cup, which is covered in vines.
Forbidden Forest Merlin Trials
North Ford Bog Entrance
Ignore the title of this, despite being next to the North Ford Bog Entrance Floo, it counts as Forbidden Forrest. For this one, jump on all of the stone blocks without touching the ground.
West Forbidden Forest
For this Merlin trial, you need to use Lumos to lead three sets of butterflys into the three totems. One group is behind vines, another is behind rocks.
Jackdaw’s Tomb
For this Merlin trial, set the three bowls on fire with Confringo.
North Hogwarts Region Merlin Trials
Korrow Ruins
For this Merlin trial, set the three bowls on fire with Confringo, one is in a tower behind vines.

Further right, this Merlin Trial requires you to repair 4 statues.
South of Jackdaw’s Tomb
For this trial, you’ll need to use Flippendo to make the icons on the top blocks match with the bottom ones.
South of The Collector’s Cave
For this Merlin trial, use Lumos to lead the blue butterfly into the small totems.
Forbidden Forest Floo
For this trial, destroy all the balls with the basic cast.

In this Merlin Trial, you’re going to need to light the three cauldrons on fire with Confringo.
Falbarton Castle
Use Lumos to attract three sets of butterflies and shove them in the totems.

For this Merlin trial, roll the big boulder down the hill.
East of Hogsmeade
For this Merlin trial, attract three sets of butterflies using Lumos and put them in the totems.

Use Depulso to send the huge boulder into the cup.
Hogsmeade Station
Use basic cast to destroy the stone balls for this Merlin Trial.
Use Confringo to light the three braziers on fire for this Merlin Trial.
Jump on the stone pillars without touching the ground.
Aranshire
Use Wingardium Leviosa to move the three sets of five balls onto the three plinths.
Use Depulso to send the huge boulder into the cup
Use Depulso to send the huge boulder into the cup. You’ll need to unlock the boulder with Bombarda.

You need to touch all of the stone blocks without touching the ground. you may do this on the broom.

In the castle ruins, shoot the balls with basic cast.
North West of Keenbridge
Jump on the stone totems without touching the ground.
The Mine’s Eye
There’s a large boulder to the right, push the down the hill.

In the back of the bandit camp, destroy five totems with Confringo.
West of the West Valley floo
Near an Ashwinder tent, flip the logos on three totems so that they match up.
Land on all of the pillars without touching the ground.
West of North Feldcroft Floo
Use Confringo to destroy the large pillars, one of which is behind some vines.
Light the three braziers on fire.
West of Rookwood Castle
Use the broom to bounce off all of the stone pillars in the water.
Destroy the five pillars on the beach using Confringo
Right of the South Feldcroft Floo
Knock the huge boulder down the hill and into the cup.

Destroy the rock balls in the castle ruins using basic cast.
Destroy the five large pillars using Confringo.
