The latest trailer for Final Fantasy 16 has now been released.

The four and a half minute video sheds more light on the game’s plot and backstory.

“Who shall claim their fading light?” reads the video’s description. “From a single spark, will the land ignite.

“A new shadow rises to fall upon the Dominants, painting their destinies black as night.

It adds: “It has been fifteen hundred years since the fall of our forebears, and Valisthea has been slowly dying ever since.

“Darkness spreads as day gives way to twilight, the Mothers’ flame now all but a flicker. And as the fringes fade, the people flock to the Mothercrystals.”

Fans were expecting the trailer to arrive at some point this month after the game’s producerNaoki Yoshidasaid it was on the way.

Yoshida also said that after the trailer would be released,Square Enixwould hopefully be in a position shortly afterwards to give a more concrete release plan.

Speaking at the Japan Game Awards last month, Yoshida said he expected the trailer to arrive in October, adding: “I haven’t gotten a chance to talk to the marketing or public relations teams at all, so I’m not sure how much I’m allowed to say.

“But I think we’ll probably be able to release the next trailer next month or so, and after that, I hope to be able to give a rough idea of when it will be released.”

The new trailer ends by simply saying the game is still planned for Summer 2023.
