Final Fantasy 16 will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive for at least six months after its summer 2023 release.

That’s according toa new marketing videopublished bySonyon Monday, which features FF16 footage along with the disclaimer: “Final Fantasy 16is anticipated summer 2023. PS5 exclusive for six months.”

The confirmation potentially paves the way for aPCport of Final Fantasy 16 in 2024. To date, the title hasonly been announced for PlayStation 5.

Curiously, the game’s 2020 reveal trailerdid mention a PC version, but this reference was removed from later versions of the video.

Recent franchise entries such asFinal Fantasy 7 Remake Intergradeeventually did make their way to PC.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s 12-monthPlayStation exclusivity period was due to end in April 2021. However, this was seemingly extendedby six monthswith the release of PS5’s Intergrade version in June 2021.

Sure enough, a PC version of Intergrade was released in December 2021 – almost exactly six months after thePlayStation 5version. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is yet to release onXbox, however, more than two years after its initial release.

In a recent interview, Final Fantasy 16 producerNaoki YoshidatoldFamitsuthat Final Fantasy 16’s release date will be announced later this year. Yoshida also claimed the gameis now nearing the final stages of development.

“With regards to development, the team has turned the corner and entered the home stretch, and is currently concentrating its efforts on debugging, tweaking, polishing, and optimisation,” he said.

In a separate statement, the game’s directorHiroshi Takaisaid: “As the game edges closer to completion, the team has turned its full attention to debugging and final adjustments. Now that things are starting to come together, the game is sizing up to be something truly special.
