Xbox head Phil Spencer has said Square Enix MMO Final Fantasy 14 will come to Xbox.

ThePCandPS4online game first launched in in 2010, butaccording to Square Enixhasn’t made it toXboxdue to the platform’s restrictions on certain cross-play features, such as chatting and forming guilds with players on other platforms.

Phil Spencertold media at X019 on Thursday that he was “finding a solution” and would bring the game to Xbox.

“Final Fantasy 14 is a game I’ve been dedicated to, along with Yoshida-san, finding a solution to bringing that game to Xbox,” he said.

“And while it’s not all in the news today, I wanted you to know that, rest assured, we will be bringing that game to Xbox.

“We have a great relationship with Yoshida-san and we’re working through what it means to bring a cross-platform MMO, that they’ve run for years. It will be one of the games that’s coming and it’s something that I know our Xbox fans will be incredibly excited to see.”

Final Fantasy XIVdirectorNaoki Yoshidapreviously told Wccftech he had spoken to Phil Spencer about resolving the platform issues stopping the game reaching Xbox.

“To play an MMORPG [on Xbox], there are 2 regulations forMicrosoftwhich stand in the way of making crossplay feasible. Unless these regulations are rejected, there is no meaning,” he explained.

“One of the regulations is that players with different platforms cannot chat with each other in-game. Then how do you play an MMO?

“The other regulation is you cannot make a community with plays on a different platform. You can’t form a guild, you can’t enter into a link shell, [and] no free company. So I would like to have Microsoft change their regulations.”

According toSquare Enix, Final Fantasy 14 has more than 16 million registered players as of 2019.

At X019, Xbox announced thata roster of classic Final Fantasy games will be added to its Game Pass subscription service.
