European PlayStation 5 sales in January 2023 were reportedly over three times higher than during the same period a year earlier.
That’s according to GamesIndustry.biz headChris Dring, who also said on Monday thatNintendo SwitchandXbox Series X/Ssales last month were down year-over-year.
“Across European markets in January,PS5sales are up 202% compared with the year before (when there were big stock shortages),” he tweeted.
“PS5 was the No.1 console last month, Switch falls to No.2 (sales down 11% compared with Jan 2022), whileXboxSeries S and X are No.3 (sales down 32%).”
Last month,Sonysignalled thatPS5’s long battle with supply issues was finally over, and the company has said it expects the console todouble PS4’s shipment record for the first three months of a calendar year.
UK PS5 sales in January 2023were double those of a year earlier, while in Japan the console has just enjoyed itsbiggest sales week since launch.
And on Monday, market research firm theNPD Groupreported thatPS5 led US console sales in January.

During Sony’s CES showcase in January, SIE presidentJim Ryanclaimed December was PS5’s biggest sales month yet, and that increased availability means more consumers can now purchase the console following long-running supply issues.
“PS5 supply improved towards the end of last year, and I’m happy to share that December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales, and that we’ve now sold more than 30 million units through to consumers worldwide,” he said. “Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally starting from this point forward.”
