Embracer Group has reportedly made layoffs at 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks.

Scott Miller, who founded 3D Realms and now heads up indie publisher Apogee Entertainment, said he’d been told that at least half the developers at the Danish studios were being let go.

“Several sources have told me this bad news… Sorry to hear about another drop of the axe byEmbracer Group, this time landing on Danish 3D Realms,” hesaidon X. “A lot of people, including core devs, will be looking for work asap.”

“More and more sources have told me at least half the company (Slipgate/3DR) is laid off,” he said in a follow-up post. “We’re looking at hiring at least 2-3.”

As spotted byGame Developer, Miller’s claim was corroborated by developer Michael Markie, whosaidthat “for Christmas this year, I got laid off”.

Embracer, which acquired  3D Realms and Slipgate in 2021, announced in June that it was implementinga restructuring programmewhich would involve the closure of studios and the cancellation of some projects.

It has since shut studios likeSaints Row developer Volition, Campfire Cabal andFree Radical Design, while others have reportedlybeen put up for sale, such asBorderlandsmakerGearbox.

Embracer has made over 900 layoffssince the restructuring plan was put in motion, with the cuts also impacting studios includingCrystal Dynamics,Beamdog,Zen StudiosandFishlabs.
