Electronic Arts has delayed the release of its new PGA Tour game and specified no new release window.
In a statement issued alongside its latest financial results, the publisher said that the game had been moved out of its previously specified spring 2022 release window, but gave no reason for the delay.
“We’re excited to bring championship golf to you and will be providing more information on our launch plans in the coming months,” it said.
EA SportsPGA Tour is the publisher’s first major golf game since it stopped using the license in 2015.
The game is currently in development at EA’s Tiburon studio(NBA Live, Madden) and will be powered by the publisher’s flagship Frostbite engine, which it says will leverage “stunning fidelity, breathtaking immersive environments, and approachable, dynamic gameplay.”
EAclaims it’s employed “first of its kind” aerial scanning to collect millions of data points from the Augusta National course, which it says was previously inaccessible in golf games.
Previously, EA had published PGA Tour games since 1990. In 1998, EA published the games with endorsement from Tiger Woods, a relationship that lasted nearly two decades.
Last year rival sports games publisher2K Sportspublished PGA Tour2K21 (seen in the video above), and recently announceda partnership with long time EA ambassador Tiger Woods.
