Borderlands 4 has been announced for release in 2025.
The game was revealed atGamescomOpening Night Live with a teaser trailer, which is viewable below.
“In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet,” reads the description accompanying the reveal trailer.
While thePCversion ofBorderlands 3was anEpic Games Store exclusive for six months,Borderlands4 is already available to wishlist onSteam.
“The team and I atGearboxhave a lot we’ve wanted to do with Borderlands since we first introduced the looter shooter genre to the world with our original game,” saidRandy Pitchford, founder and president of Gearbox Entertainment. “All of us at Gearbox have massive ambitions for Borderlands 4 and are putting everything we have into making everything we love about Borderlands better than ever before while taking the game to new levels in exciting new directions.”
Publisher2Kconfirmed thatthe next Borderlands game was in active developmentearlier this year, after it announced that it hadacquired Gearbox EntertainmentfromEmbracer Groupfor $460 million.
Speaking toGamesRadarlast month, Pitchford suggested fans wouldn’t have to wait long for more information about it.
“I haven’t been perfect at hiding the fact that we’re working on many things, and that we’re working on big things,”the Gearbox co-founder said.
“I’m confident that our fans are going to be very, very happy with the next video game project when we are ready to announce it. And I will tell you that we’re not going to be making people wait for a long time before we announce it.”
He added: “I have the biggest and best team that I’ve ever had working on what we know is exactly what our fans want from us—so I’m very, very thrilled. I can’t wait to talk about it! I wish I could just gush right now because we’ve got so much to say!”
