DICE has confirmed new Battlefield 2042 features including planned support for cross-play and cross-progression.

In an updatedblog post, the studio said cross-play was one of fans’ most asked about features.

“We can confirm it’s a function we’re looking to build and test forBattlefield 2042,” it said, adding that it has delayed a planned technical playtest from early July to “later this summer so we’ll have the opportunity to test the cross-play functionality”.

The test will accommodate “a few thousand participants” ahead of wider testing in anopen beta before the game’s October release.

Players interested in taking part in the technical test, which will only be available onPC,PS5andXbox Series X/S, are advised to register forEA Playtesting, although this will not guarantee access.

DICEsaid the plan is to support cross-play across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, with PC and console players ale to opt-out from playing together. Cross-play will also be available acrossXbox OneandPS4.

“Alongside cross-play we’re also building cross-progression and cross-commerce for Battlefield 2042, which will be shared across all platforms and travel with you wherever you go,” the studio added. “For example, your unlocked progress and purchases in yourPlayStationcopy of the game will carry over onto theXboxor PC version, and vice versa.”

DICE’s blog post also provided a detailed look atSpecialists, maps, vehicles, and itsrecently confirmed AI bots. The studio previously said the game will backfill its largest 128-player matches with AI-controlled bots to keep games populated.

In its most recent update, DICE confirmed that co-op support will enable users to play together with friends against AI soldiers, while solo support will let users play alone against AI soldiers.
