Apple and Sony are working together to bring PlayStation VR2 hand controller support to the Apple Vision Pro headset.
That’s according to Bloomberg, which said the platform holder approachedSonyearlier this year to propose the collaboration.
Sony hasreportedlybeen working on the project for a number of months, andApplehas been discussing the plan with third-party developers in order to gauge their interest in adding support for the controllers to their games.
Apple’s $3,500 mixed reality headset launched in the US in February and has been rolling out in other countries throughout this year.
Vision Pro has reportedly made an underwhelming start commercially, and Apple is said to be planning to release a cheaper $2,000 version of the device next year.
According to aFinancial Timesreport published last summer, Apple once had an internal sales target of one million units during Vision Pro’s first year on the market.
However, it wasclaimed this figure had been more than halvedalong with Apple’s production target for the headset, due to the complexity of its design and manufacturing difficulties.
Research firm IDCforecastein July that Vision Pro wouldn’t cross 500,000 sales this year.
Sony reportedlypaused production of PlayStation VR2 in March, just one year after its launch, to deal with a backlog of unsold units.
The headset, which has been heavily discounted on several occasions this year, is currently on sale until January 2025. ThePlayStationVR2Horizon Call of the Mountainbundle, which costs $599.99 / £569.99 at full price, is available for $349.99 / £349.99.
