Spider-Man Remastered has received a new update which adds support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and 120Hz displays.

Version 1.007 adds a new 120Hz display mode, which is only designed for displays which support this refresh rate.

120Hz doesn’t mean 120 frames per second – it simply means the screen is refreshed 120 times every second. This can lead to an increase in frame rate and reduced input latency, though.

Insomniacsays that if players enable 120Hz on theirPS5‘s main system settings then enable it in the game, input lag will be reduced and the Fidelity mode will see an increased frame rate from 30fps to 40fps.

The new update also includes support for VRR, whichis rolling out to PlayStation 5 consolesthis week.

VRR syncs the framerate of the game being played to the monitor which, in theory, reduces noticeable frame-rate drops and other graphical issues.

PS5 is finally getting VRR support this week

Insomniac says that when 120Hz display mode is off, VRR “slightly increases dynamic resolution targets”. If 120Hz is on, “the frame rate is unlocked and varies based on gameplay”, with VRR presumably being used to keep it stable.

For those who don’t have VRR or 120Hz support on their display, the only other addition version 1.007 includes is “improvements to ray-traced reflection quality at glancing angles in low-dynamic-resolution scenarios”.
