A sequel to cult FPS Painkiller is currently being developed.

The news was announced byKoch Media, which plans to release the game under its newPrime Matterlabel.

The new Painkiller will be developed and co-published bySaber Interactive, and will include a co-op multiplayer mode.

The game will be coming to consoles andPC, but no other information such as a potential release window has been confirmed yet.

The original Painkiller was released on PC andXboxin 2004 and was praised for its simplistic but chaotic action. The PC version went on to receive fixe expansion packs.

In 2012, Nordic Games published Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, anXbox 360,PS3and PC game that was partly a remake and partly a sequel of Painkiller.

With Saber on development duties for the new Painkiller, this will mark the third developer in as many games for the series, and the first time it will be handled outside of Poland – the first game was developed by Warsaw-basedPeople Can Fly, whereas Hell & Damnation was handled by The Farm 51, a studio co-founded by former Painkiller staff.

Prime Matter is Koch Media’s new ‘premium gaming’ label, which promises to be “a dynamic mix of seasoned industry veterans and enthusiastic fresh faces creating an incredible team of diverse multi-cultured gaming experts”.

Koch also announced a number of other games due to be released under the Prime Matter name, including Payday 3, King’s Bounty II and a new Unreal Engine 5 third-person action-adventure game called Project: Echoes of the End.
