Activision has announced the formation on an internal mobile studio, which is currently working a new entry in the Call of Duty series.

The move, which wasfirst revealed by job listings in June, was officially confirmed by company executives duringActivision Blizzard’s second quarter earnings call on Tuesday.

“As we think about long-term, where we see more compelling growth on the [mobile] platform, I’d say we believe there’s an opportunity to better connect mobile to the overall Call of Duty ecosystem and we’re aggressively hiring talent to help on this journey,” saidActivisionpresident Rob Kostich.

“We’ve created our own internal mobile studio and are driving a major recruiting effort, acrossBeenoxand Activision Shanghai to support as well, and together these teams are leading an unannounced new mobile project in the Call of Duty franchise which we’re very excited about.”

According to a number of job listings on the company’s careers website, ActivisionMobileis “dedicated to developing the best AAA mobile games in the world”.

Activision says: “Our first project is a new AAA mobile title in the Call of Duty franchise and we’re looking for great talent from mobile, console andPCbackgrounds passionate about their work, who share our belief in what AAA experiences on mobile can and should be.”

A job advert for an executive producer of features on “a new AAA mobile FPS in the Call of Duty franchise” was alsospotted in September 2020before being taken offline. It included multiple references toWarzone Mobile, suggesting Activision was planning to bring the battle royale hit to new platforms.

The company launched free-to-play series entries Call of Duty Mobile in November 2019 andWarzonein March 2020. The former has been downloaded over 500 million times and the latter hasattracted over 100 million playerson consoles and PC, according to the publisher.

Activision also said on Tuesday that this year’s new premium series entry, which is expected to beCall of Duty: Vanguard, will offer “a seamless experience” for current and next-gen consoles andfeature a setting that “fans know and love”.
