Sony Interactive Entertainment is planning to release a remaster of PS4 title Horizon Zero Dawn for PlayStation 5.
That’s according to a report byMP1ST, which VGC can corroborate via our own sources.

The updated version of the 2017Guerrilla Gamestitle will feature improved visuals to bring it up to par with this year’s sequel,Horizon Forbidden West, in the form of new character models, lighting and animations, it’s claimed.
In addition, it’s claimed the new version of Zero Dawn will add accessibility features, graphics modes and quality of life improvements to the gameplay itself.

Re-releases of recent hit games aren’t a new trend forPlayStation: the platform holder has already released multiple remasters and remakes forPS5, includingSpider-Man,Ghost of Tsushima,Uncharted4 and The Last of Us.
APCversion ofHorizon Zero Dawnwas released in 2020 with improved draw distance and higher framerates, but it mostly reused the assets and features from thePS4version.

In addition, the MP1ST report claims that Guerrilla Games is currently working on a Horizon multiplayer game for PS5 and PC, which matches what VGC reportedlast year.
VGC understands that the studio has long intended to expand the Horizon series into the multiplayer space. Sources had previously told us that co-op was first planned for the original Horizon game but was ultimately scrapped so the development team could focus on other areas of the title.

Zero Dawn concept artthat leaked online in 2014 – verified by VGC – even shows initial plans to have multiple players battle the game’s huge mechanical beasts, in a scenario similar toCapcom‘s Monster Hunter games.
Sources said thatSonyhad been keen to include co-op in the game’s sequel, Forbidden West, but Guerrilla decided to save the feature for a future project, which they believed would either be a standalone online spin-off, or Horizon 3.

SIErevealedin May that it’s launching a significant push into live service games, with 12 such titles planned to arrive by its fiscal year ending in March 2026.
In 2018 Guerrilla rehiredgame director Simon Laroucheto work on an unannounced title, which is potentially related to a multiplayer project.

The designer has huge experience with multiplayer games, having directedUbisoft’s popular eSports shooter Rainbow Six: Siege, as well as online modes for Guardians of the Galaxy,Splinter Cell: Blacklistand Killzone 2.
Sony announced in May that it’sworking on a TV adaptation of Horizon, which will be released onNetflix. The Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman isdeveloping the show, based on the PlayStation franchise.
