Samsung has reportedly suffered a significant data breach via the same group that claimed to be responsible forlast month’s hack of Nvidia. According toBleeping Computer, the LAPSUS$ hacking extortion group compromised Samsung and has begun to release confidential information obtained from the company. The group has released the information in a torrent, it’s claimed, which at the time of writing appears to have been shared by hundreds of users....

Sega has shown off another look at the next Virtua Fighter during CES. The short clip, which can be viewed below, was debuted duringNvidia‘s CES presentation to highlight the progress from the first GPUs which debut in 1999, till now. The footage includes a disclaimer that it is “pre-development in-engine footage,” and “not actual gameplay.” The game is in development from Like A Dragon studio Ryu Ga Gotoku and wasannounced during The Game Awards last year....

Sega’s Hardlight studio is working on another Sonic mobile game, a new job listing has revealed. The listing, which was posted onGamesIndustry.biz’s jobs board, is titled: “Lead Artist – New Sonic Game”. It reads: “SegaHardlight is looking for a Lead Artist who can drive both the art and the art team on a new, exciting, and ambitious narrative driven platform game. You could be an art/environment lead with a proven track record or a senior artist looking for a step up in the career....

Sega has released the story DLC for Sonic Frontiers, titled The Final Horizon. Available as a free download, The Final Horizon adds new missions as well as other features. According toSega, the update lets players “head back to Ouranos Island and play through additional stories”. Players will also be able to play as Tails, Knuckles or Amy for the first time in the game, each of whom has their own unique powers and abilities....

Sony has detailed plans for improved Party chat functionality on PS4. These include better audio quality, increasing the maximum Party size from eight to 16 participants, and improved network connectivity. The company said in aPlayStation Blogpost thatPS4users will soon be able to register for a chance to participate in a preview scheme to test the new features. Successful applicants won’t be able to join the same Party or use Share Play with players who aren’t participating....

Sony has announced August’s first PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue title. Sabotage Studio’s retro-inspired, turn-based RPG Sea of Stars will join the subscription service at launch. Sea of Stars will be released forPC,Switch,PS4,PS5,Xbox OneandXbox Series X/Son August 29. It was previously confirmed that Sea of Stars will be joining the Game Pass catalogue forXboxand PC on day one too. “Sea of Stars is a turn-based RPG inspired by the classics,” according to its developer....

Spider-Man 2 is still slated for release in 2023, Insomniac Games has reaffirmed. The official Insomniac Twitter account replied to a thread in which fans were speculating about why the game hadn’t received a second trailer since it was originally announced. After some expressed concern that the game wouldn’t make its planned 2023 release, Insomniac stepped in to assuage their fears. “Don’t [worry],” it said. “We’re making good progress and it’s slated for 2023....

Square Enix has said Outriders “is on track to become the company’s next major franchise” following a successful launch month in terms of player numbers. The co-op sci-fi shooter, which is developed byPeople Can Fly, attracted over 3.5 million unique players between its April 1 release and May 1, according to internal data from its publisher. “With over 3.5 million unique players, average play times of over 30 hours and extremely high engagement for co-operative play, we and the amazing team at People Can Fly are so excited with this initial success,” said Jon Brooke, co-head of studio atSquare EnixExternal Studios....

Square Enix has settled its lawsuit with a mobile game publisher it accused of using assets from a cancelled title they worked on together. The publisher and HK Ten Tree have agreed to settle a lawsuit filed in March, in whichSquare Enixhad claimed that Ten Tree’sdeveloper BlackJack Studiowas using assets from Front Missionin its mobile game Metal Storm (known as Mecharashi in China and South Korea). When Ten Tree made known its intention to release Metal Storm in the West, Square Enix filed a lawsuit in Seattle, attempting to block the game’s Western release until the matter had been resolved....

Starfield is the fifth fastest-selling game in Europe this year based on its launch week performance. Steam set another all-time record for concurrent players on Sunday. According to tracking platformSteamDB, some 36.29 million users were using Steam, with around a third of these users actively in-game.
