A new teardown video investigates why joystick drift occurs in DualSense and other controllers, and suggests that PS5’s analog sticks have an operating life of around 417 hours. According to the video bypopular tech channel iFixIt, DualSense uses the same off-the-shelf joystick hardware as many other platforms’ controllers, includingPS4,Xbox One,Nintendo Switchand more. Each of these platforms have also seen drifting issues occur for some users, withSwitch Joy-Cons,Xbox controllersandnow DualSenseall facing class-action lawsuits over the issue in the US....
All PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 owners can now claim a digital copy of the 2016 reboot of Ratchet & Clank for free, as part of Sony’s Play At Home initiative. Gran Turismo 7 feels like someone letting you drive their incredibly expensive supercar, but only if you drive under 30 miles per hour and stay on suburban streets. It’s a showcase for incredible cars that all look just about as realistic as a car could look in a video game, but if you even so much as want to drive one of the cars, the game will be sure to sit you down for a lecture about the history of gear sticks before you even get your hands on the key....
You get the feeling that even Capcom knows that Street Fighter 5 was somewhat undercooked. Despite boasting an excellent fighting engine, the sequel to the incredible renaissance that was Street Fighter 4 was a letdown when it was released last generation. While subsequent updates would smooth the edges so that by the time the ‘5 era’ was done it was a solid game with plenty of content,Street Fighter 5was a lean package at launch....
Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser is the latest notable game developer to endorse blockchain games. The former creative lead behind the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption franchises has joined the advisory board of blockchain games firm Revolving Games after participating in a $13.2 million funding round. Rare has delayed the launch of Sea of Thieves Season 10 until October. Electronic Arts is reportedly considering the possibility of making some of Battlefield 2042’s Portal mode free-to-play. That’s according to journalistTom Henderson, who has a strong track record withEAreporting. He claims the publisher is very disappointed with the game’s performance since its November release and is exploring various options designed to salvage the situation, including offering free access to “a portion of Portal”. Developed by Ripple Effect Studios (previouslyDICELA) and described as “a love letter to Battlefield fans”,Portal lets players design their own match experiencesby mixing maps and elements from past series entries with Battlefield 2042....
Sonic X Shadow Generations will include DLC featuring the voice of Keanu Reeves. The Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack will be included with the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game. The pack will offer the ability to play as the movie version of Shadow, voiced by Keanu Reeves (who also plays Shadow in the film). It will also include a Tokyo area, which is where the movie is partly set....
Nintendo’s next console could launch later than expected, in early 2025, it’s claimed. That’s according to Brazilian journalistPedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, who claims in a newOX do Controle videothat he received the information from five separate sources. According to the sources, they are also working on games targeting Q1 2025, to launch alongside the console itself, which has internally slipped out of a previous 2024 target. It’s frustrating that a game like South of Midnight, which is clearly packed with so much creativity, is let down by one major element that is creatively bankrupt. In many ways, it’s a success. By setting the game in the American Deep South, developerCompulsion Gameshas plunged its narrative bucket into a well that has been oddly underutilised in video games, and ended up with a game that looks visually unique as a result....
