Sega has said it’s targeting high review scores for its next flagship Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Frontiers. Set for release in holiday 2022forXbox Series X/S,Xbox One,PS5,PS4,SwitchandPC, the open-world Frontiers isSega’s most ambitious Sonic title for some years. Asked during a recent analyst and investor Q&A session about its quality targets for the game, and if it had target scores for review aggregation sites such as Metacritic, Sega Sammy’s CEO Haruki Satomi and CFO Koichi Fukazawa confirmed that this is the case....

Sony has announced September 2024’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue and Classics titles. This month’s additions (which are listed in full below)include The Plucky Squire, Night in the Woods and Under The Waves. PlayStationPlus Premium also offers a selection of PS1,PS2andPSPgames to download, andPS3games via cloud streaming. September’s additions to the Classics Catalogue include Secret Agent Clank, Sky Gunner and Mister Mosquito. All of the games listed below will be available beginning on September 17....

Sega has detailed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing CrossWorlds. The publisher has confirmed that theSwitch 2version of the racer will release digitally first this holiday season, followed by a physical version early next year with “the full base game on the cartridge”. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds will release first onPS5,PS4,XboxSeries,Xbox One,PC, andNintendo Switchon September 25. There will be a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack available for owners of the Nintendo Switch version, with content and progress able to carry over to the newer console version when it eventually releases,Segasaid....

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the most downloaded PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation VR games of 2021. The platform holder has released separate top 20 charts forPS4andPS5in both the US/Canada and Europe. It has alsopublishedtop ten charts forPlayStationVR games and free-to-play titles in each region. Sports games claimed 20 of the 80 places across the PS4 and PS5 charts, while Call of Duty titles took five spots, as didRockstargames....

Sony has filed a lawsuit against Tencent, claiming its upcoming game Light of Motiram is a “slavish clone” of its Horizon series. As initially reported byReuters,Sonyhas filed a lawsuit in California federal court alleging copyright and trademark infringement, and claiming that the game is so close toHorizon Zero DawnandHorizon Forbidden Westthat players could be confused into thinking it’s part of the same series. The suit also alleges that, after starting work on Light of Motiram,Tencentthen asked Sony if it wanted to collaborate on a new Horizon game, to which Sony declined....

Square Enix has announced that it will be releasing a set of Final Fantasy VII trading cards that will include NFTs. The collection, which is called Final Fantasy VII Anniversary Art Museum: Digital Card Plus, consists of 207 cards. Each pack, which costs ¥440 ($3.30), contains six physical trading cards as well as one ‘digital exchange card’. This can then be redeemed for an NFT version of a card.Square Enixsays it’s possible to get an NFT version of any of the 207 physical cards....

Valve has launched Steam’s Autumn Sale. Running until December 4 at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm GMT, the promotion includes “thousands of discounts”, according to the company. Warner Bros. and Player First Games have announced that the MultiVersus open beta will be taken offline in 90 days. In a message released on Monday, Player First Games co-founder and game director Tony Huynh said the studio plans to bring the game back in early 2024. During the downtime, allMultiVersusonline modes and features will be unavailable. Players will have limited offline access to local matches and the game’s training room, including their characters and cosmetic items within these modes, which will carry over to the full game next year....

Electronic Arts is reportedly gearing up to reveal the next Need for Speed game this week. Casting has been revealed for the next Silent Hill movie, which will begin filming next month. Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw) will lead Return ToSilent Hill, which is set to be based on theSilent Hill 2video game,Deadlinereports. Filming will be underway next month in Germany and Eastern Europe, directed by original Silent Hill director Christophe Gans.
