Andersson will act as design director on the title and work in parallel with creative directorAxel Torvenius– who was previously art director for the Wolfenstein games – and with executive producerJerk Gustafssonat the helm. The design director will be familiar with his new colleagues, as like many at the Swedish studio, he previously worked atStarbreeze....

The Super Mario Bros Movie will make its subscription streaming debut on Peacock next month, it’s been announced. The film will come to the service, which is owned by NBCUniversal, on August 3. It will be accompanied by bonus features including cast interviews, a ‘lyrical video’ for Bowser’s song Peaches and a Super Mario Bros Movie Field Guide which adds interactive features throughout the film. It was announced in July 2021 thatPeacock would get exclusive access to all Universal, DreamWorks and Illumination films, including The Super Mario Bros Movie, during the ‘pay one’ window, which is the period of time after a film leaves cinemas and is added to subscription streaming platforms or TV channels....

Microsoftannounced last month that Game Pass Ultimate members in over 25 countries would soon be able to download anXboxapp on Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max devices. OtherSide Entertainment, the studio co-founded by the leads from Deus Ex and Thief, has shown the first trailer for its new game, Thick as Thieves. Set for release in 2026, Thick as Thieves is described as an “immersive stealth-action multiplayer game” coming toPS5,Xbox Series X/SandPC. OtherSide is led byWarren Spector(Deus Ex), Greg LoPiccolo (Thief) and Paul Neurath (Thief), and the group say their experience in the stealth action genre has led to the creation of Thick as Thieves....

Twisted Metal is Peacock’s “most binged” comedy premiere to date, NBCUniversal claims. As reported byDeadline, the 10-episode series, which was added to Peacock in its entirety on July 27, has performed relatively well by the media company’s standards. According to NBCUniversal, viewers of the show watched on average three episodes back-to-back, with some even watching all 10 in a row. Total viewing figures haven’t been provided, but Nielsen ratings data says the show clocked up 400 million viewing minutes in the weekend after it premiered, a figure Deadline says made it one of the most-watched streaming originals of the week....

Two new studios co-founded by former Disco Elysium developers have been announced on the same day. On Friday morning, around twelve former ZA/UM staff announced the creation of Longdue Games, a studio said to be working on a spiritual successor to the acclaimed RPG. At the same time, another UK-based studio, ‘Dark Math Games’, was announced, with around 20 former Disco Elysium staff said to be on board creating their own detective RPG named XXX Nightshift....

Unity used its GDC 2018 press conference to announce a partnership to bring Nvidia’s RTX ray tracing technology to its engine. In a collaboration withNvidiaand BMW, the company debuted a video featuring a real life car (the 2019 BMW 8 Series Coupe) and a version of the car powered by Unity, with both versions of the vehicles virtually indistinguishable from one another. The video is an example of how ray tracing will work on “consumer-grade” Nvidia RTX graphics cards, it said, with “photorealistic image quality”....

A bipartisan group of US lawmakers has urged Activision Blizzard not to “give in to Beijing’s demands” and reconsider its decision to ban esports player Ng ‘Blitzchung’ Wai Chung for expressing support for Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement. Blizzardbanned Chung from Hearthstone esports for one yearand withheld $10,000 in prize money he’d won for saying “liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times” during a post-match livestream. Following widespread condemnation, Blizzardconceded it had reacted “too quickly” and said it would reduce Chung’s banto six months and let him receive his winnings....

Warcraft franchise general manager and SVP John Hight has revealed that he’s resigning from Blizzard after more than a decade with the company. Hight, who has overseen all game development and operations forWorld of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Warcraft Rumble, and Warcraft RTS games for the past three years, said on X that he was leaving the studio in search of something new. “After 12 incredible years atBlizzard, I’ve decided to step away and start a new quest,” he wrote....

Saber Interactive has announced Wild Card Football, the latest title in its arcade-style Playgrounds Sports series. The American football game, which will be released onPS5,Xbox Series X/S,Switch,PS4,Xbox OneandPCon October 10, will feature 7v7 gameplay and focuses on over-the-top moves and fast-paced gameplay. It will also be officially licensed by the NFL Players Association – which is the union representing NFL players – and will therefore include “hundreds” of current and legendary American football players, including Colin Kaepernick, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Jefferson, Joey Bosa, Ja’Marr Chase, Aaron Donald, TJ Watt and Jalen Hurts....

WNBA team the New York Liberty is collaborating with Xbox to play on a Starfield-themed court. The unique design, which featuresStarfield‘s trademark rainbow-like colouring in the key and Starfield logos near the halfway line, will be applied to the court at the Barclays Center. 2K Sports has officially announced WWE 2K24. The latest edition of the WWE2Kseries will be released on March 8, and will be available onPS5,Xbox Series X/S,PS4,Xbox OneandPC. The game will feature Cody Rhodes on the front cover of the Standard Edition, while the Deluxe Edition will feature Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley.
