Video showing Nintendo Switch 2 booting up for the first time appears online

A video showing someone turning on the Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time has appeared online. The video, which we’ve linked below, shows Russian Telegram channel Pops & Culture turning on the console, then showing it to the camera. The video, which is only 41 seconds long, appears to show the system’s setup screen, where the player chooses the system language. It is likely that this is as far as anyone with early access to the console can access, as the rest of the system’s features, including playing games, are seemingly locked behind a mandatory day one update, which has yet to roll out....

Xbox boss Phil Spencer says NFT game plans ‘feel more exploitive than about entertainment’

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has revealed his concerns over NFTs in a new interview. NFT, or ‘non-fungible tokens’ are a unique non-interchangeable unit of data that is stored in a digital ledger. This means that things like images, music and even in-game items can be sold to a specific “owner” that can be verified via the blockchain. NFTs are a growing trend in the games industry, with publishing heavyweights likeEAandUbisoftinvesting in the volatile and environmentally dangerous cryptocurrency sector....

Xbox is in its best-ever fighting form, but its opponent didn’t show up

One of the less seismic consequences of Microsoft buying Bethesda has been a consolidation of E3 shows. Where once each company was responsible for a highlight of the event’s presentation calendar, the pair now share a slot. In summer blockbuster terms, it’s as if Marvel and Fast & Furious pooled their talent for a crossover movie: fewer hours of fun overall, but you’re guaranteed stars from start to finish. Any worries thatBethesda’s second billing would mean a more muted showing fromPete Hinesand co....

2022 Preview: Starfield needs to mark a new era for Bethesda on Xbox

Starfield needs to be so much more than Skyrim in space. Not because Skyrim is a bad game, if it was, they’d probably not be able to release it across 3 generations of consoles, but because even in 2011, it didn’t feel modern. Flash forward to Fallout 4, and while the storytelling is solid, the role-playing aspect of the game felt even further stripped back, leading fans to wonder what the point ofBethesdaGame Studios was if the role-playing depth didn’t make up for the extremely shoddy technical performance....

2025 Preview: Grand Theft Auto 6 needs to show it can keep with the times

The day Grand Theft Auto VI is released will look something like 28 Days Later. The streets will be a ghost town, workplaces will be full of empty chairs, and schools (sorry PEGI, but let’s face it) will have so many absences that the teachers will start worrying there may be some sort of infectious disease they weren’t aware of. After all, when you’re talking about a series whose last game is currently sitting at no fewer than 205 million copies sold worldwide, the question isn’t whether the sixth entry will be an enormous success, but just how enormous that success will be....
